Valerie Claire ARMSTRONG
Died peacefully at Wanganui Hospital on 20 July 2026 after a short illness. Aged 85. Dearly loved sister of the late Brian, the late John, and Rosemary Hicks. Much loved aunt of Katherine, John, Nicola and Phillip; Kristine, Penny and Roger; Christopher, David, Robyn, Karen and the late Philippa. A dear friend to Alma, and many others.
Nurse extraordinaire for many years at Wanganui Hospital and Nazareth Rest Home.
A service for Val will be held in the Cleveland Chapel, 179 Ingestre Street, Wanganui on Monday 27 July at 2pm, followed by private cremation.

Thinking of you all.I remember Val from when I was little,as my mum walked with Val and they were great friends.Was shocked when mum told me.

I truly got to know her on our many visits from Seattle to New Zealand over the years, and especially during the last 4 years when we rediscovered the beauty and charm of Whanganui by spending each January there. Clint and I were enriched with wonderful conversation in a relaxing atmosphere by the sea. Our time was made more meaningful by having such a dear friend. Also, we had the pleasure of taking Lucky for walks around Castlecliff.
In Seattle Val's presence is keenly felt with her brightly colored coasters used daily, trivets of Castlecliff beach, Virginia Lake, pukekos and swans. I'm ever grateful to her for making a NZ spoon necklace for each of our 3 grandchildren. We loved her and are very saddened by her passing. Our deepest sympathy to her family.
I am deeply proud to have been a student nurse from!964 --1967 under your guidance as Ward Sister for Newcombe Ward.
Those halcyon days of indelible memories...our patients treated holistically and reverently under your leadership.
You enabled me to nurse(until she passed) the very midwife who delivered me in 1947.Such a privilege Im forever grateful for.
In recent times it has been a joy to reunite annually with you and others .Ingrid,Jo,Diana,Elaine....in your ever welcoming home by the mighty ocean with its immense views and fiery sunsets
your busy hands leaving us with beautiful creations in jewellery,wind chimes,placemats (with your own photos of swans at Virginia Lake etc)
Your memory will live on in our hearts dear Val...to know you was to LOVE YOU....Thank you for everything you gave to us and our world.
